Avoiding Clogged Drains Without Using Expensive Solutions

Nothing can ruin the flow of a well-planned day like the arrival of a clogged drain. Standing in your own pool of water in your shower is just not a welcome visitor in the morning when you really just need a good shower to wake you. Dumping your extra coffee into a sink half-filled with last night’s dinner scraps makes for a yucky start to the day as you stick your hand down to the drain to see if the stopper is stuck, or if you have a clogged drain. Yuck, just yuck. We’re pretty certain that 100% of the population dislikes a clogged drain just about as much as they enjoyed tax day this year.

There’s always a quick solution to avoiding the dreaded clogged drain using store bought solutions that are designed to avoid and unclog your drains. However, did you know you probably have some remedies in your home to help avoid clogged drains?

Here are a few tips for you to avoid clogged drains.

  1. You can and should run hot water through your faucet and sink following each use. By doing this simple process you are helping any spare food products and oils from getting stuck, or building up inside your pipes.
  2. Put a couple of tablespoons of baking soda down the drain and wash it down with hot water. This process will help make your pipes clean and smell good.
  3. It seems like vinegar is the solution to most household issues, and in this case, it’s true of your pipes. Pour about 1 cup of vinegar down your drain. Let it do its job, and then wash it down with extra hot water.
